Head Coach Jeff Grubich's new school record 104th career win was certainly a memorable one.
On a cold Halloween evening, Will Hamm owned the night. Behind his four touchdowns, Kenston dominated former WRC rival Madison by the score of 34-8.
From the very first play, it was evident that the Bombers were ready for playoff football. On the opening kickoff, Hamm collected the ball at the Kenston 12 and then was never touched on his 88-yard sprint up field for his first touchdown.
The Bomber defense then forced Madison into a quick three-and-out and Jake Rostocil rushed a blocker into the Blue Streak punter, blocking the kick. Tyler Bell was right there to recover the ball for Kenston at the seven yard line.
Two plays later, Hamm had his second touchdown on a three-yard run into the end zone, giving Kenston the 14-0 lead.
After a series of traded punts, Kenston quarterback Jack Bryner hooked up with Kahlil Hinton on several pass plays and set up Hamm's third TD of the night.
On the ensuing Madison possession, the quarterback fumbled and Hamm was there to scoop it up. Kenston took a 24-0 advantage following a 28-yard field goal by Grady Kucharson.
After another defensive stop by the Bomber defense, Bryner hit tight end Ethan Black on two pass plays totaling 53 yards. A couple of more rushes and Hamm was in the end zone again for touchdown number four on the night. Kenston took a 31-0 lead into halftime and never looked back.
With a running clock in tow, Kenston set Kucharson up for another field goal, this one from 35 yards out, and the Bombers took a 34-0 lead in the fourth quarter. Madison would get on the board in garbage time to finish the game, resulting in the 34-8 win for Kenston.
Other than Hamm's scoring burst, the story of this game was a dominant performance by the Kenston defense. They had, by far, their best performance of the season, surrendering only 105 yards to the Blue Streaks and giving up the fewest amount of points all year.
Bobby Hairston led the team with an outstanding eight tackles (all solo) and Tommy Seifried had a pass broken up and a sack on the defensive line. Max George (two PBU) and A.J. Giancola (1 PBU), locked down the secondary with their standout play in the defensive backfield as well.
Bryner finished the game 8-for-17 for 141 yards passing and led the team in rushing with 52 yards on eight attempts.
Hinton had a seamless return in his first game back from injury, catching four passes for 65 yards to lead the receiving game.
With the win, Grubich passed longtime head coach Zinn Gorby for the most wins in program history. He now holds a career record of 104-53 (.662).
The Bombers have advanced to the Regional Quarterfinal and will travel to #1-seeded Canfield on November 7.
